A Proof of Concept Study","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Female\n* Age ≥18 years\n* Recurrent proven UTI, defined as \"two or more proven infections in six months or three or more infections in six months\"\n* Willing and able to give fully informed consent\n* Patients suitable for prophylaxis following discussion with their clinician.\n* No contra-indications to treatment with methenamine hippurate or Vitamin C\n* All women will have undergone standard diagnostic work-up and have followed routine conservative UTI prevention measures.\n* A working email address to be used to submit urine pH results\n* Willing and able to comply with the study procedures\n* Females of childbearing potential must be willing to use a highly effective method of contraception (hormonal or barrier method of birth control; abstinence; sterilisation or vasectomised partner)\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Males\n* Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding\n* Contraindications to methenamine hippurate as described in BNF: known allergy, gout, severe metabolic acidosis, severe dehydration, eGFR less than 10 ml\u002Fmin, severe hepatic impairment\n* Currently using vitamin C containing supplement or cranberry extract tablets\n* Women using urinary alkalinisation agents, e.g potassium citrate, sodium bicarbonate\n* Currently receiving any form of bladder instillation or intradetrusor Onabotulinum Toxin A injections\n* Patients already on low-dose antibiotics or methenamine hippurate (due to delay that will be incurred by 3-month washout period)\n* Indwelling urinary catheter in situ or performing clean intermittent self-catheterisation\n* Correctable urinary tract abnormalities, e.g., urinary tract calculi, urinary retention\n* Formation of ileal conduit or augmented bladder\n* Neurogenic bladder dysfunction\n* Hyperoxaluria","FEMALE","18 Years",{"count":62,"type":63},20,"ESTIMATED","INTERVENTIONAL",[66],"EARLY_PHASE1","A single centre proof of concept study to assess whether Vitamin C improves the efficacy of Methenamine Hippurate (Hiprex®) in the prophylaxis of recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTIs) in women",[69],"Urinary Tract Infections","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-02-10",{"date":73,"type":74},"2026-02-11","ACTUAL",{"date":76,"type":63},"2027-01",{"date":78,"type":63},"2028-01",{"name":5,"class":6},1]
