People with stroke and newly diagnosed cardiovascular complications had \\>50% prevalence of recurrent stroke at 5 years. Index stroke or recurrent stroke on same side as index stroke will be allowed.\n* Exercise continuously for minimum of 30 watts for 3 minutes on the recumbent stepper to demonstrate ability to perform the exercise test or therapist confirmation\u002Fdocumentation of participant's ability to use the recumbent stepper.\n* No aerobic exercise contraindications or other safety\u002Fphysical concerns during the submaximal exercise test determined by the therapy team or inpatient physicians.\n* Able to communicate with investigators, follow 2-step command \\& correctly answer consent comprehension questions\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Implanted pacemaker or defibrillator limiting exercise performance\n* Reported pain that limits or interferes with activities of daily living and physical activity\u002Fexercise\n* Acute Myocardial Infarction in the last 2 days\n* Ongoing unstable Angina\n* Active Endocarditis\n* Symptomatic Severe Aortic Stenosis\n* Decompensated Heart Failure\n* Acute Pulmonary Embolism, Pulmonary Insufficiency, or Deep Veinous Thrombosis\n* Acute Myocarditis or Pericarditis\n* Other significant neurologic, orthopedic, or peripheral vascular conditions that would limit exercise participation\n* Oxygen-dependent chronic obstructive pulmonary disease\n* Neurological disease (Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease)\n* Pregnancy","ALL","18 Years","85 Years",{"count":19,"type":20},15,"ESTIMATED","INTERVENTIONAL",[23],"EARLY_PHASE1","The objective of this study is to explore the safety and feasibility of conducting low-volume, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on a total body recumbent stepper (TBRS) in persons with stroke in an inpatient rehabilitation setting.",[26,27,28,29],"Stroke","High Intensity Interval Training","Aerobic Fitness","Physical Therapy","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-04-10",{"date":33,"type":34},"2026-04-15","ACTUAL",{"date":36,"type":20},"2026-04-13",{"date":38,"type":20},"2026-08",{"name":40,"class":41},"University of Kansas Medical Center","OTHER",""]
