Impact of Estimated Concentration of Propofol on Implicit Memory Formation

Implicit memory formation and learning during general anaesthesia is a still debated question and no anesthetic regimen (ie intravenous anaesthesia vs inhalatory one) nor analgesic regimen (i.e. low or high opioids usage) has been identified for prevention. With this study the investigators aim to investigate if, during Total Intravenous Anaesthesia with Target Controlled Infusion (TIVA-TCI) different concentrations of Propofol at loss of responsiveness, maintenance and return of responsiveness can have a role in implicit memory formation.

Intercultural Adaptation and Validation of the Ukrainian Quality of Recovery-15 Questionnaire

The Quality of Recovery 15-questionnaire (QoR-15) is used to assess postoperative quality of recovery after surgery and anesthesia from the patient's perspective. It evaluates five dimensions including pain, physical comfort, physical independence, psychological support, and emotional state. The aim of this study is to validate a Ukrainian version of the QoR-15 scale (QoR-15Ukr) to measure postoperative recovery in Ukrainian-speaking patients.

Effect of FPCA on Incidence of Emergency Delirium in Children After Surgery

Emergence delirium (ED) stands out as a prevalent postoperative complication among paediatric patients, correlating with extended hospitalization periods, escalated healthcare expenses, and increased incidence of postoperative maladaptive behaviours (POMBs). There is a lack of well-established pharmacological or non-pharmacological interventions demonstrating efficacy in reducing the occurrence of ED. Therefore, our objective is to assess the potential of family-centred perioperative care for anaesthesia (FPCA) in mitigating the incidence of ED in children, compared with routine anaesthesia.

Regional Versus General Anesthesia for Hip Fracture and Postoperative Oxygenation

With this study, the investigators intend to measure oxygen saturation before and after hip surgery in the context of proximal femur fracture, comparing two types of anesthesia (general or spinal). The investigators also intend to study the effects of the two anesthetic techniques on sleep apnea, delirium, respiratory complications, and length of hospital stay. This is an observational study, in which oxygen is measured at the fingertip with a sensor and a bracelet, without any intervention, inconvenience, or discomfort for the participant. Data will be collected on: respiratory complications, sleep apnea, delirium, length of hospital stay, and survival. Data will be collected in the operating room and wards of Santa Maria Hospital, Lisbon, Portugal over a period of approximately 24 hours after the participant's operation. Information about participant's health and co-morbidities will be recorded. There will be no implication for the participants' clinical care, since the study measurements will not be sent to the health professionals in charge. The operation, recovery, and treatments will not be influenced at any time by participation in the study.
